A low mounding conifer that has distinctive white new growth that matures to a light yellow; grows very slowly, and eventually will develop a leader that must be pruned if desired to keep low; a perfect decorative groundcover for an open sunny area

Ornamental Features

Snow Sprite Deodar Cedar has attractive yellow evergreen foliage which emerges white in spring on a dwarf conifer with a mounded habit of growth. The needles are highly ornamental and remain yellow throughout the winter.

Landscape Attributes

Snow Sprite Deodar Cedar is a dense multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with a mounded form. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and usually looks its best without pruning, although it will tolerate pruning. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Snow Sprite Deodar Cedar is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Accent
  • Mass Planting
  • Groundcover

Planting & Growing

Snow Sprite Deodar Cedar will grow to be about 24 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 50 years or more.

This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions, but will not tolerate any standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
