Description:

Prized for its towering, columnar form, this hybrid selection makes a bold statement when planted along borders, as a screen, or as a stunning specimen; elongated, glossy green foliage is compact and dense; perfect for smaller landscapes

Ornamental Features

Crown Point™ Holly is primarily valued in the landscape for its rigidly columnar form. It has attractive dark green evergreen foliage which emerges light green in spring. The spiny narrow leaves are highly ornamental and remain dark green throughout the winter.

Landscape Attributes

Crown Point™ Holly is a dense multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with a narrowly upright and columnar growth habit. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It is a good choice for attracting birds and bees to your yard. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Crown Point™ Holly is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Accent
  • Vertical Accent
  • Hedges/Screening
  • General Garden Use

Planting & Growing

Crown Point™ Holly will grow to be about 15 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 30 years.

This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. This plant will benefit from an application of bonemeal and/or mycorrhizal fertilizer at the time of planting. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. This particular variety is an interspecific hybrid.
