Description:

A compact cultivar with pendulous or prostrate branching, forming a low spreading mound; white doublefile flowers may be sparse, as well as the following red fruit; grown primarily for its habit; red fall color; an interesting foundation plant

Ornamental Features

Weeping Magic Doublefile Viburnum is bathed in stunning white lacecap flowers with creamy white centers held atop the branches in mid spring. It has light green deciduous foliage. The textured oval leaves turn an outstanding brick red in the fall. The red fruits are held in clusters from mid summer to early fall.

Landscape Attributes

Weeping Magic Doublefile Viburnum is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a rounded form and gracefully weeping branches. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Weeping Magic Doublefile Viburnum is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Mass Planting
  • Rock/Alpine Gardens
  • General Garden Use
  • Groundcover

Planting & Growing

Weeping Magic Doublefile Viburnum will grow to be about 3 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 6 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 40 years or more.

This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
